Abstract from Notes
- Define a literature review
A literature review is a secondary method of collecting data. It involves examining existing material, such as journals, books, websites and other sources, relating to a chosen topic.
- Define ethics in research
Ethics in research include a system of moral principles or standards governing the appropriate conduct for an individual or group with respect to the specific situation; that is, the principles used to judge right from wrong, good or bad.
- What is qualitative data?
Qualitative data is research that involves collecting facts and information regarding people’s beliefs, feelings, attitudes and opinions to gain insight into an area. It is more subjective and subject to greater bias than quantitative data.
- What does collecting data from primary sources include?
A primary source is data that is collected first-hand by the researcher. The information is obtained directly by observing behaviour or by asking people questions through interviews or questionnaires. Collecting data from primary sources include collecting the data, interpreting the data, analysing the data and presenting it. Examples of primary data include questionnaires, interviews, observations and case studies.
- What is an appendix in a report?
An appendix contains material that is relevant to the research process; however, is not appropriate for inclusion in the IRP product. It could include copies of interview questions, blank and completed questionnaires, collections of raw data, newspaper articles and photographs.
