Resource Description
Torture, the deliberate, systematic inflicting of physical or mental pain, either as a means of coercing information or confession or as a form of punishment. Good morning teachers and students and welcome to this seminar of the human rights issue of torture.
As late as 1984 the United Nations adopted the convention against torture and other cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment. This was put into place in dozens of countries but violations still occur as some countries were and are secretly sanctioning its use.
Torture is in opposition to a few specific articles in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Some articles included are Article Three which states “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the security of person”. Torture links in this article in the way that it states that everyone has the right to life.
Torture very rarely ends in a positive way and commonly ends in the person’s death. Article Five speaks for itself “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment”. This article links in with the human rights issue of torture as powerfully as possible
