An essay on the anti-war movements in the US
How significant were anti-war movements to the US withdrawal from the Second Indochina War?
The withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam in the Second Indochinese War by US president Richard Nixon was heavily influenced by the hundreds of anti-war movements across the USA. Impacts resulting from the disaster of the Tet Offensive in 1968 awakened the American public to the horrors of the Vietnam War, sparking nationwide outrage about the unnecessary nature of the US involvement in the conflict. Major protests such as the Moratorium March saw thousands of people from all social classes banding together for a common cause, sparking peace talks such as the Paris Peace Accords in 1973. The nationwide voice of the people which emerged from the anti-war movements were significant to a large extent in influencing the political decisions that led to the withdrawal of US troops from the Second Indochinese War.
