Resource Description

Wodiczko :
1.         The Abraham Lincoln memorial – 
used this work to present a total of 30 was veteran and their family’s interviews about their experiences of war and the aftermath.
By presenting the interviews on the statue he was able to form a ‘parallel between the war veterans and their traumas in the past, as far back as the Civil War’
At the time, the statue was a place of resistance to war and there were people gathered to protest about social change
His work ‘reinvigorated interest and gave new meaning to this historical civic monument, causing New Yorkers to stop and reflect on our history and its consequences.
Turned a place of protest into a place of reflection.
2. Tijuana Project –
Allowed female labourer of border factories to give testimonies about the struggle
Turned silent confessions into public testimonies
Projected his work onto the Omnimax theatre at the Centro Cultural Tijuana.
They discussed issues including work related abuse, sexual abuse, family disintegration, alcoholism and domestic violence.
3. Hiroshima project –
The Hiroshima Dome was one of the only buildings left standing after the Hiroshima bombings
160, 000 people were killed in the attack and the dome became a monument to remind people of those lost
His work offers a different perspective to the event. He offers the testimonies of those who survived
The stories of the surviving victims were finally heard and the public made connections between the various generations of those involved.
Wodiczko’s work highlight taboo events that are hidden from the media. They reveal a realistic representation of life.

1. Veil of trees –
Located in the botanic gardens, allows there to be a contrast between the   natural world and the man-made buildings
The panel are made from sap, ash and leaves from the Eucalyptus trees to reference those that once stood there and the past
The LED lights allows the installation to glow at night
There are written excerpts on the glass panels from Australian authors, who focused mainly on the natural surroundings
The aim for this installation as to refer to an original stand of the red gums that fell during
