Essay on effect of war on civilians (Conflict in Europe)
Explain the impact of world war II on civilians in Britain and Germany
The Second World War, spanning from September 1939 to September 1945, was the quintessential total war of modernity, impacting severely on citizens in Britain and Germany in particular. Distinct from World War I, World War II involved the unprecedented active targeting of non-combatants and non-combatant property, a general disregard for collateral damage, large scale conscription, and unsurpassed national mobilisation of resources. This total war mentality generated short and long term economic, social and political changes on the home front and on the individual and collective lives of civilians in both Britain and Germany.
