Explain how Australia has responded to the need for global environmental protection. INTRO: The global environment refers to the sum of natural and built parts of the globe in which humanity resides. The central concept to global environment protection (GEP) is to maintain the health of the environment for the present and future and achieve inter and intragenerational equity through a resolution of conflict between commercial interest and ecologically sustainable development (ESD). Although Australia has made significant advances in addressing GEP issues, they still maintain unsustainable practices and have manifestly failed to adequately respond to some contemporary issues surrounding environmental protection.
