Effect:
The media is important in shaping the public’s perspective of world events, and it is important to ensure there is the freedom to express these thoughts, otherwise people will become comfortable and complacent, allowing the repressive power of manipulative men to control our every thought, just as they had done in the 1950s and 60s with McCarthyism and the Red scare. used to encourage the media in the film to continue to both criticize and commend public figures, so the public always has the ability to make informed opinions. This also expresses Clooney’s opinion of the role of the media, and what they are ethically responsible to do – to investigate and report on both sides of a story.

This again accentuates what Clooney believes should be the role of the media, based on what he learned from his journalist dad as a kid. He used this docudrama to provoke deeper analysis of the media’s current coverage of our own socio-political climate.
