HSC Advanced English Module A: Donne and Wit Trials 2022 Essay

When a writer takes a well-known work and uses it specifically for the social construct it carries to makes a statement in a new way, something unique is created.

To what extent is this true of the pair of texts you have studied for Module A?

n composing her play W;t, Margaret Edson takes the notions of life and death explored John Donne’s well-known 17th century poetry and seeks to make a new statement which reflects her anthropocentric context. Due to their differing social constructs, they reach disparate conclusions about these axiological and existential ideas, creating a unique textual conversation that allows Edson to masterfully reframe the meaning of Donne’s poetry to appeal to a modern audience.
