Change is a complex process
β Change and progression is multilinear and complex, essentially meaning that societies and cultures can evolve in different paths or manners.
β Change is affected by many variables and forces, pressuring societies and cultures to adapt
β Change occurring from a certain level can have a butterfly effect and affect those on higher or lower levels
Evolutionary change
β It refers to gradual slow changes over long periods of time
β In the late 19th century when evolution became the predominant model for understanding biological change, ideas of social change took on an evolutionary cast, and evolution persists as an underlying principle
β Evolutionary theories are based on the assumption that societies gradually change from simple beginnings into even more complex forms
β This theory was influenced by Charles Darwin, creator of the theory of organic evolution and developer of the concept of gradualism.
