PDHPE Critical Question 4: Managing Injury Rehabilitation
Compiled using PDHPE.net, Outcomes 2 Textbook and Teacher Notes
Injury management procedures
Rehabilitation is the process of restoring the athlete to a pre-injury level of physical fitness. It involves mobilisation, stretching and condition, taping, training and testing as part of the assessment process. It is important that a proper rehabilitation plan is followed through the various stages and that the injury is completely healed before recommencing competition. The time taken for a complete recovery varies, however it is an essential part of returning to play.
Progressive mobilisation
Progressive mobilisation works to gradually increase the joint range of motion and movement. This is required because after an injury and injury treatment, muscles around the joint become stiff as a result of not being used for an extended period of time. The gradual progression of joint mobilisation slowly stretches the muscles and ligaments around a joint, allowing for an increase in the range of motion.
