HEART FOUNDATION β CVD
Intro
o Cardiovascular disease (CVD) was the major cause of death in 2015 taking the lives of 45, 392 Australians. CVD disease is the leading cause of preventable death in Australia.
o In response, the Heart foundation is a health promotional initiative in response to the health issue of CVD.
o The Ottawa Charter was developed in 1986 at the First International Conference on Health Promotion. The Charter recognised the many determinants of health and developed five action areas to be used in health promotion to address these determinants. Through the incorporation of social justice principle, the Ottawa Charter is a largely effective framework that is utilised by health promotional initiatives.
o The Heart Foundation utilises the five action areas of the Ottawa Charter in an attempt to promote protective behaviours that prevent the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
o Thus the decrease in deaths from CVD can be attributed to effective health promotion strategies
