1. Explain the physical activity options available for aged people with medical conditions? (8 marks)
For adult and aged athletes who suffer from medical conditions such as heart conditions, fractures and bone density, lack of flexibility and joint mobility, there are measures that can be taken to maintain their participation in sport.

2. Evaluate the strategies an athlete may employ to support the body’s mechanisms for regulating temperature. (12 marks)
There are various strategies that can be employed by athletes in to support the body’s mechanism for regulating temperature. The human body produces a lot of heat during exercise, and loses this heat mainly through the evaporation of sweat from the skin. This heat is dispersed through specialized heat mechanisms; convection, radiation, conduction and evaporation. During climates that are extreme in temperatures, humidity, wind, rain, altitude and pollution these strategies can often me impaired and thus temperature control becomes difficult.

1. Why do iron deficiency and lower bone density affect female athletes? (8 marks)
Iron deficiency and bone density can have significant impact on a female’s participation in physical activity. These health issues have a substantial affect on a female’s body function and therefore must be managed in order to minimise the negative impact on sports performance.
