Essay Rewrite MOD C
Section III
Question:
“First of all”, he said, “if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds
of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-“
Atticus Finch, To Kill A Mockingbird.

Use this advice as a stimulus for a piece of persuasive, discursive or imaginative writing that
expresses your perspective about a significant concern or idea that you have engaged with, in ONE
of your prescribed texts from Module A, B or C.

Think back to the turn of the 20th century, it’s May 28th 2000, hundreds of thousands of Australian’s
walk side by side in reconciliation for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, suspended by
53,000 tonnes of grey slate Australian steel.

This kilometre-long symbol, $13.5 million dollars of iconicity, holding a spotlight up to the world. We
have gathered here for different reasons, we may come from a range of backgrounds and ethnicities
but on this day we are a unified voice.

See, the Aboriginal Problem is a topic in the media and conversation, obviously never explicitly
stated like that, but it’s what is really said. A taxing problem of economic reform, recommendation
panels and representation to give a return to an unheard audience, A people that have not been
heard, who’s song line has been stopped, the melody echoing out into the vast void of the Australian
landscape.

The issue emerges from a inherently occidental modality of thinking. This is captured by curriculums,
statistics and all thing categorical that can give a numerical data point and set something into
actuality, truth and rationality. Such a methodology, a business model of such, cannot be simply
applied to another people, and suddenly we understand them.

We need to completely re-evaluate and evolve the way we consider the Aboriginal perspective, a
revolutionized modality to find a new point of view.
