How Significant was War Communism to the Bolshevik Consolidation of Power?
To an extent war communism played a significant role in the Bolshevik’s consolidation of power due to the policies it enacted in order to aid the Red army in the Civil War, and thus the victory that allowed the Bolsheviks to maintain their power. However, while this was significant in the short term, in the long term the policies of war communism had many damaging repercussions due to the widespread unrest of peasants and the workers, which threatened their newly consolidated power.
