• Baptism is initiation rite accepted by most denominations
• Two types – Paedo and believer which have Godparents or sponsor respectively 
• Rite involves sprinkling or full immersion into water, anointing with Chrism, blessing and scripture, and baptismal promises or public testimonies 
• Represents the initial formal and public participation of the candidate in the life of the church and in Christ’s death and resurrection
