Resource Description

These are the notes I took at a NESA English Advanced seminar on the Craft of Writing module. It covers a lot of how to approach this module, how to break down the stimulus and prescribed texts, and how to do each type of creative writing.

Module C: Craft of Writing

One question that may contain up to two parts
The question will require an imaginative, discursive, persuasive and/or an evaluative, explanatory or reflective response.
Your answer will be assessed on how well you:
Craft language to address the demands of the question
Use language appropriate to audience, purpose and context to deliberately shape meaning

Feedback from 2019 Marking Centre
Students should:
Demonstrate their understanding of Module C and the prescribed texts, relevant to the question
Address all aspects of the exam question when crafting a response, applying particular attention to the stimulus, if provided
Avoid rewriting, appropriating or crating an extension of a Module C prescribed text for Part A unless this approach is specified for the set question
Consider the mark value for each component of the question when allocating time to responses

Better responses were able to:
Compose a highly engaging piece of writing that skilfully uses the stimulus
Specifically address the key word and engage with layers of stimulus
Effectively use one of the nominated styles in their writing
Evoke and sustain a particular emotional response in the reader by their language through figurative, rhetorical or linguistic devices
Provide a comprehensive explanation of how their language was crafted to evoke an emotional response in the reader
Specifically and comprehensively address the key word ‘compare’ when responding to their own text and prescribed text
Explain how they were influenced by the ideas and crafts of their prescribed text rather than analyse them in isolation
