CHARACTER

1.Othello

Initial impressions of the character. How do they appear at first? Key quotes and scenes.

Charming:
“She loved me for the dangers I had passed, And I loved her
that she did pity them. (1.3.)”
– Calm:
“Keep up your bright swords, for the dew will rust them.—
Good signior, you shall more command with years than with
your weapons” (1.2.)

First key scene with Othello:
1. Act 1 Scene 3

In this scene Othello is seen reasoning with Brabantio
persuading him that Othello and Desdemona are truly in
love. Othello explains how he wooed Desdemona unintentionally when he recounted his past life whilst a
guest at Brabantio’s. It’s here when Othello initially uses his
persuasive charm to explain himself and gain respect. Its a
key scene where we begin to understand his attitude,
reliability and demeanour. 2. “The Green-Eyed Monster
Jealousy is aroused (Act 3 Scene 3)
