Question: Importance and significance to Judaism
Intro: The abovementioned verse of the Tanakh – the Hebrew Bible – represents one of the cornerstone pillars of Judaism. It embodies the essence of the covenant Jews believe God made with the Children of Israel via the Prophet Moses, the covenant around which Judaism is centred. For Jews believe that God took them as His chosen people to be in a covenant with, whereby they would have to live in accordance with God’s commandments in order that they continue to receive God’s favour and prosper as a nation. Hence, Jews view their success in this world based on how they adhere to this covenant. However, the covenant between God and Moses was not the only covenant Jews believe God made with His Prophets. Jews hold that there were two other important covenants made prior to the covenant with Moses, the first being with Noah and the second with Abraham. This paper shall thus analyse the covenants God made with His Prophets and how they relate to the Jews being the “chosen people” of God
