Extensive Notes on Module 2 – Organisation Of Living Things
Structural organisation of multicellular organisms:
โ Organelles: A membrane-bound compartment or structure in a cell that performs a special function, vary depending on cellโs function – vacuole, mitochondria
โ Specialised cells: cells that have a specific function – root hair cells, leaf guard cells
โ Tissues: A group of similar cells working together to carry out a specific function in multicellular organism – muscle tissue, root tissue
โ Organs: two or more tissues that work together to perform one or more specialised tasks – heart, liver, leaves, flowers
โ Systems: A group of organs that work together to perform a vital task.
Cell differentiation and specialisation
โ Specialisation: a specialised function for a cell
โ Differentiation: process by which a cell changes from one type to another, usually an unspecialised cell becoming specialised
Relate the structure of the following cells to their function
